Betcha Can't Do It Like Me. (Discuss)
D4L Cover artwork for the Atlanta based hip-hop group's debut LP.
D4L is a snap music group with members Fabo (Lefabian Williams), Dennis Butler (Dennis Butler), Stoney AKA Stuntman (Adrian Parks) and Shawty Lo (Carlos Walker) from Atlanta. They formed in 2003 and emerged in late 2005 with the hit single "Laffy Taffy", which reached number one on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 in January 2006. With a solid 175,000 downloads, it can truly be seen as a digital bestseller. Their debut album, Down for Life, was released on November 8, 2005. They are signed to Mike Jones's Record label, Ice Age Entertainment.
D4L have been noted to have tensions with another rap group from Atlanta, Dem Franchize Boyz. D4L claims that Dem Franchize Boyz stole their dance (called "Doin' It") from them. Sources have opposing reactions on the validity of these claims. In their single, "Betcha Can't Do It Like Me," D4L begins the song by saying "You fuckin' thieves," obviously referring to Dem Franchize Boyz and the controversy.
D4L are among the many new age Hip-Hop groups criticized for their blatant materialism and extremely simple production methods. Their massive mainstream success is said by many of the more traditional Hip-Hop fans and artists to largely reflect Hip-Hop music becoming increasingly primitive and simple, almost to the point of complete caricature of modern African American music. Alternatively, they are also credited with pioneering the new subgenre of snap.
While many believe "Down For Life" to be their first album, it is actually their second. Their authentic first album was called "Betcha Can't Do It Like Me" and has been selling all over Atlanta, Georgia prior to the release of "Down For Life" and also contained the single of the same name, which was receiving regular airplay before Laffy Taffy, although the video wasn't made untill much later.

Beef
During The Wu Tang Clan's 2006 mini-tour of the U.S. east coast, Ghostface Killah called out D4L stating that they are "garbage" and singled out their song Laffy Taffy, mockingly dancing to it. D4L said later on in Ozone Magazine that they will not respond saying they have too much respect for Ghostface and listen to songs by him and Raekwon for inspiration.
Ghostface later did a show in Atlanta where the two camps crossed paths, and despite their musical differences both came out of it with respect for each other. The "beef" between the two sides was widely blown out of proportion on the internet and nothing else has come from the situation
They also have beef with Dem Franchize Boys after allegedly stealing one of their many dances.
